JANIENE M. LANGFORD
Hayward STEM Community Engagement Project

Janiene M. Langford is the Program Manager with the California State University, East Bay Institute for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Education.

Ms. Langford will be presenting a recap of the first ever Hayward STEM Community Engagement Project, led by the Institute for STEM Education. The program brought together local educational institutions, business, and government to support college and career exploration for Hayward high school students. All four Hayward public high schools were represented – Hayward High, Brenkwitz Continuation, Tennyson High, and Mt. Eden High – and more than 50 businesses and organizations in Hayward and the surrounding areas participated.

Focusing on the importance of STEM education in the future success of Hayward students, this major new program created a bridge to crucial pieces of our community and set a path for a sustainable future. The central four pieces of the program included STEM in Government, a Business & Education Mixer, a Hayward STEM Career Awareness Day, and a STEM College Expo.

Ms. Langford was appointed to her current position with CSU in October, 2014. In a relatively short time, she has successfully worked to connect industry and education across the Bay Area, leading and supporting projects in Berkeley, Concord, Emeryville, Hayward, Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco, San Jose, and beyond. Ms. Langford's role at CSU includes the development of programs that bring together key community stakeholders to support youth in STEM literacy and college and career exploration.

In addition to being a Hayward Rotary Club member, Ms. Langford is a proud resident of Hayward and an active member of the Hayward community, serving on various committees and volunteering weekly at the Hayward Animal Shelter with her husband, Abraham.
