Nobody Asked Me (Rotary Membership)

Hayward Rotary Club is pleased to welcome fellow Rotarian Del Blaylock, Alameda business leader and sought-after public speaker. Del will be delivering his popular talk about Rotary membership, "Nobody Asked Me.".

Del was born in Oklahoma, went to college in Nashville, Tennessee, at David Lipscomb University with a major in Speech and a minor in Language. He served in the Naval Reserve and went active in 1956, came to California that same year. After serving two years, he joined the firm ALBURTS MEN’S WEAR in Alameda. In 1960 became General Manager, and partner of three ALBURT'S STORES. He and his partner, Lou Allen closed the store in 1984, and he opened GOLDEN NEEDLE TAILORING , selling Custom Men’s Clothing and alterations for Men and Women. His company is the JIM'S FORMAL WEAR dealer for the City of Alameda.

Del is very active in the community, and currently serves on five boards. He is the past president of the Alameda Boys and Girls Club, Past President and founder of the Greater Alameda Business Association, He is Past Vice President of the Navy League, past board member of the Alameda Chamber of Commerce, Girls Club Inc., Meals on Wheels, WABA, and Alameda Council of the Boy Scouts. In 1994, he was honored as the “Man of the Year ” for the City of Alameda, and in 2001, “ Volunteer of the Year” . Del is past president of the Rotary Club of Alameda. Past Assistant Governor of Area One, and, (2006-2007) Membership Chair of District 5170 . Last year International Foundation Chair for Alameda.

Del is married to Lora, and has one son and one granddaughter. His favorite hobby is Down Hill Skiing, which he enjoys almost as much as he does selling Custom Men’s Clothing, and PUBLIC SPEAKING.
