Hayward Rotary Scholar Recognition Event

The third annual Hayward Rotary Scholar Program honors four local students who achieved perfect test scores, attendance, and citizenship. Representing what it means to be “Made in Hayward,” this year’s recipients were:

• Vanna Van, 5th grade, Park Elementary School
• Kevin Go, 6th grade, Southgate Elementary School
• Chris Basco, 7th grade, Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School (his second year in a row!)
• Melany Flores, 8th grade, Martin Luther King Middle School

On January 26 at 7:00 p.m., the Mayor Barbara Halliday and the Hayward City Council will recognize these extraordinary students and their families at Hayward City Hall. Please attend this special recognition event to show these young scholars our pride in their accomplishments.

Thanks to Hayward Rotarians and community members who made generous donations, each student will receive a packet of gift cards and other prizes. Hayward Unified School District awarded the students with Hayward Rotary Scholar medals, as well as banners bearing each scholar's name which will be hung proudly in their schools for generations to come.
