Woolly and Wild at the Hayward Animal Shelter

Jennie Comstock is the Administrator of the Hayward Animal Shelter, a bureau of the Hayward Police Department. Ms. Comstock will present her Rotary keynote address, "Woolly and Wild at the Hayward Animal Shelter."

Ms. Comstock's passion for animals led her to seek a career helping them, starting in 1994 when she first began working in a veterinary hospital. After seven years in that role, she decided to pursue a more rewarding career where she could help the animals and the community, and became a Records Clerk with the Hayward Animal Services Bureau. She later served as a shelter supervisor and in the field as an Animal Control Officer. She was promoted to Animal Services Administrator in 2010.

As the administrator of the Hayward Animal Shelter, Ms. Comstock is responsible for overseeing several units within the Animal Services Division, as well as maintaining the shelter's budget and programs. She is a graduate of the Advanced State Humane Academy and continues to increase her knowledge of progressive animal welfare through regular professional development activities. She lives in Hayward and shares her home with her Pit Bull Tasha, Shih tzu Molly, and two cats, Mr. Sniffles and Buddy; all previously homeless shelter pets.
