Keith Blackey
“14 Years Starting and Running Youth Programs and a Rotary Club in Combat Zones”.
Though Keith’s father was a career Army officer, his childhood dream was to fly Navy
jets, but he did not qualify to be a pilot because of bad vision. Knowing he would be
drafted; he begrudgingly joined the Army like his dad. Fatefully, he was assigned to a
navy squadron after army training and though not a pilot, he lived his dream of flying
on carrier-based jets as a plane captain for three years during the Vietnam War.
In addition to four years in the military during the Vietnam War, and 18 years as an Army
brat, Keith helped start and run Rotary-assisted youth programs for six years during the
Second Persian Gulf War in Iraq and eight years during the current Operation Freedom
in Afghanistan where he was also a founding member of the Rotary Club of Kabul City.
Keith holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and MBA. He has been a
global engineering, sales and marketing executive for several Silicon Valley
companies, and marketing VP of one of the fastest growing Internet companies in
China. He is a 30-year Bay Area resident, member of five non-profit boards, and
founding treasurer for Rotary Club for Global Action, District 5150’s newest club.
