Since the 2016 U.S. presidential election, debates about fake news have regularly appeared in American society.
Cal State East Bay Professor Nolan Higdon contends that expanded access to media literacy education is a more promising solution than government regulation or commercial products. His 2020 book, The Anatomy of Fake News, offered the first historical examination of fake news for the purpose of creating effective critical news literacy. The book includes a fake news detection kit.
Professor Higdon will address the Hayward Rotary Club at its noon luncheon on Sept. 25 on "Critical Media Literacy, The Anatomy of Fake News."
