Oakland Roots professional soccer team fan engagement executive Andy Sandoval will be the featured speaker when the Hayward Rotary Club meets for lunch Monday, Aug. 26 downtown at 1074 B St.
Since 2023, the team has played its home games at Pioneer Stadium at the Hayward campus of California State University, East Bay in the USL Championship. It was announced last week that the Roots will play 17 games of the the 2025 season at the Oakland Coliseum while continuing negotiations with Oakland to open a temporary stadium in 2026 with 10,000 seats for them and the Oakland Soul women's soccer team.
The Roots play in the USL Championship, one of the most successful professional soccer leagues in the world, reaching a population of more than 84 million and fueling the growth of the game across North America. Sanctioned by the U.S. Soccer Federation as a Division II professional league, the USL Championship includes a membership of 24 clubs across the continental United States.
