‘Big Time Bake’ is one of the most popular shows on the Food Network and in Episode 5 this year the team from The Cupcake Shoppe in Hayward was the winner. Shop owner Yolanda will be joining Hayward Rotary from her bakery in downtown Hayward via Zoom this Monday, Nov. 2, and describe how her daughter Rosie and Chef Max used some of the skills they learned from her to win the top award from a panel of judges led by Buddy Valastro, best known as the owner of Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey and star of “Cake Boss.”

The Cupcake Shoppe is at 22521 Main St. and is a full service bakery specializing in custom cakes, cake pops, fresh baked desserts and, oh yes, cupcakes! Her shop is three doors down from the Hayward Chamber of Commerce, where the staff especially likes to order the French toast and bacon cupcakes. Their mobile unit is always one of the most popular stops in the annual chamber downtown Hayward street parties.

Yolanda has been baking for friends and family for over 10 years, teaching daughter Rosie along the way. In January 2011 the duo decided to turn their love of baking into an on-line business named Crumbs Cupcakes & More. The business grew so fast that by October 2011 they opened in Hayward. Within the first month they were notified their business name was taken and so The Cupcake Shoppe, LLC, was born.

In a previous competition, they participated in the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars.” We don’t know Yolanda’s secret ingredients, but we do know her desserts are made with the highest quality imported cocoa, Madagascar vanilla, fresh fruits and spices.

Join us on the Zoom call Monday and learn a few baking tips and secrets to winning a showbiz cook-off. Warning: Yolanda is free to meet with us because her store is closed on Mondays, so don’t expect to run down to The Cupcake Shoppe until Tuesday.
