Blockchain technology and digital cryptocurrency is becoming more a part of our lives, whether we realize it or not, and Hayward Rotary will learn just how much in a presentation from Linton Johnson, founder and chief visionary officer for Ovis LLC, at its meeting Monday, Jan. 24.

Johnson is from Hayward with a unique connection to Rotary: Freddye Davis is his godmother. He is a mentor to the Hayward High School student group Solutions Team Business Initiative Coalition and a spin-off group called Vision of Inspiration Collaborative Experience. A founding member at Stonebrae Country Club, in conjunction with the NAACP, he has helped organize mentoring events for underprivileged Hayward youth there.

Johnson is known in the wider Bay Area as an external affairs executive at BART, but in his work at Ovis he has worked with a team to create, “a blockchain-powered, decentralized media network that incentivizes high quality, accurate, and bias-free content.”

A blockchain is a distributed database that is shared among the nodes of a computer network. As a database, a blockchain stores information electronically in digital format. Blockchains are best known for their crucial role in cryptocurrency systems, such as Bitcoin.

Learn more about this fascinating technology and how it is bound to affect your life at Monday’s meeting.
