On Monday, March 13 Tanvir Dhillon and Heather Figueroa will  present information related to the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) programs and events in Hayward Unified School District.

 

Tanvir Dhillon is the Hayward Unified School District’s  Administrator on Special Assignment for VAPA. Tanvir graduated from UC San Diego with a BS in Physiology and Neuroscience and has earned an MA in Urban Education and Administration from Loyola Marymount University School of Education. He began his career in HUSD as a teacher at Hayward High School teaching AP Biology, Biology, Biotechnology, and AP Macroeconomics. He continued his work in the district as a Partner Teacher (TOSA) and Assistant Principal at Chavez Middle School. He’s been in the VAPA role for about 4 years. 

 

Heather Figueroa is the Music Coordinator for Hayward Unified where she not only grew up, but also began her teaching career.  She graduated from Mount Eden High School, where she was a member of the choirs and band.  She went on to earn her Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance, and a Master’s of Music in Music Education and Vocal Performance from Holy Names University. She earned her multiple subject teaching credential from Chapman University and her administrative credential from CSUEB.  She began her career in education, teaching K-6 music in HUSD, and a few years later started teaching general education.  She spent the following two decades teaching general education in Alameda.  Heather maintained her deep involvement in music throughout the years.  For the last fifteen years she has been an active member of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel, and also continues to be involved in vocal and instrumental solo and ensemble work.
