COVID-19 is now described as endemic throughout the world according to the CDC's coronavirus division. It is still killing hundreds of people every week, primarily older people and those with other health problems.

At the Hayward Rotary Club luncheon meeting Nov. 18, Subacute Director of Staff Development Ting Yang, team member Jose Rayas, and Subacute Administrator Melissa Katz of St. Rose Hospital will review how COVID ranks as the 10th top cause of death in the U.S. and is projected to kill 50,000 people every year, according to the CDC.

The presentation was arranged by St. Rose Foundation Director and Hayward Rotarian Mike Cobb. The club meets at 1074 B St. in downtown Hayward.

Hayward was a focal point of the nation in the way it addressed COVID testing, vaccinations, and education. And many Hayward Rotarians were at the forefront of those efforts. Sadly, Alameda County was among the state’s leaders in COVID deaths.
