Hundreds of Rotarians from 63 District 5170 clubs gathered at San Jose State on May 28 for the annual conference preparing officer, boards of directors, and other members for a program year of service beginning July 1.
Only one of the 63 clubs had the foresight to bring its bell, which is why the Hayward club was recognized at the opening and closing of each session when President Kim clanged ours with authority. In one breakout session with grammy-nominated jazz violinist Jeremy Cohen, President Kim played a duet with him on the club bell to the bluegrass classic, "Orange Blossom Special." The same violin belonged to the MGM concert master who played for the score of Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind, and Singin' in the Rain.
Area Four Assistant Governor Vrushali Nanjundappa was on hand to assist with the program, Francisco Zermeno attended as our president-elect, Ivana Hubertova represented our membership and took pictures, and Sarah Lamnin helped present in the exhibit hall on the district's DEI outreach. More of Ivana's photos of the event are here and in our Facebook album here.
