Rotary International has made DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) a major point of focus for its 46,000 clubs worldwide, and the Hayward Rotary Club will learn more about this effort at its noon Monday luncheon meeting Sept. 23 when it hears from Oracle executive Cheryl Lander, who leads the effort for Rotary District 5170. The club meets at 1074 B St.
Lander is president of the Silicon Valley Rainbow Rotary Club and chairs the Rotary District 5170 DEI Committee. 52% of employed U.S. adults say they have DEI trainings or meetings at work, and 33% say they have a designated staff member who promotes DEI. Rotary International, which has 1.4 million members, has a statement of purpose that says:
‘We believe that exemplifying and embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) should be a part of everything we do at Rotary."
