Several members of the Hayward Rotary Club will give short presentations on "What Cesar Chavez Means to Me" at the March 31 lunch meeting of the organization at 1074 B St.

March 31 is Cesar Chavez Day in California, honoring the legacy of the Mexican-American human rights activist who co-founded the United Farm Workers in 1962.

In 2014, former U.S. President Barack Obama declared March 31 a national holiday while California recognizes it as a state holiday. In 1994, a year after his death, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Hayward has a middle school named for him.
